‘Hedgehog’s Armour’
(After Tennyson’s ‘In Memoriam’, using a slightly amended line:
‘Ring out false pride in place and blood’)
Sing out twelve months
Of hibernating hedgehog
Spines bristling out
In self preservation
~
Sing in a softening
Of her armour
To join together
In familiar harmony
~
‘Sing out false pride
In place and blood’
For grief cannot be
A solo song
~
Sing out twelve months
Of lonely battle
Let spines soften
And sing in circle dance
~~~
