Yowling Cats

Between Navidad and Año Nuevo

Yowling Cats

Little people

on the green side

of a steep steep hill

~

Under the twisting

blue- white smoke

of a winter bonfire

~

The valley fills

and brims

with the swirl and curl

~

Two hundred yards

away the crack

of dead summer crisped branches

~

Snapped on the knee

to feed the fire

that feeds the smoke

~

That fills the sky

that arches over

the lazy hazy Spanish day

~

Between Navidad

and Año Nuevo

yowling cats prowl
