‘Feasting on life’
~
Thinking about fog, or is it low cloud?
The shape of bare branches
dangling nuts, stark
against the flattened backdrop.
~
Looking at bright red ceramics
with their shadows deep purple
the glaze dribbling
down the clay curve.
~
Wondering about dementia
triggered by the book I’m reading.
Old peoples’ homes
and lost memories.
~
Facing up to privilege
and choices and ‘no-choices’
How to think and look and wonder
With awe and honour and presence.
~
Reading about ‘feasting on life’
Eating colour and drinking light.
Letting each hour
nourish and sustain.

Feasting on life
The mention of fog or low cloud adds a sense of mystery, while the description of the ceramics brings a pop of color and vibrancy. The contemplation on dementia and privilege adds depth and poignancy to the piece. Overall, the poem encourages the reader to be present and savor the beauty and experiences of life.
